The government is likely to miss its target for adding high-speed electric vehicle (EV) chargers at motorway services, in the latest blow to Whitehall’s green motoring agenda.

In March last year, the Department for Transport (DfT) pledged to “ensure that every motorway service area has at least six rapid chargers by the end of 2023”. But the new analysis shows only 27 out of 119 motorway services in England meet the requirement.

The RAC, which carried out the research, urged the government to simplify the process of installing the technology.
