John Lewis and other big firms are urging the government to speed up the phasing out of diesel-fuelled lorries in an effort clean up city air and tackle climate change.

A report found that electric-powered lorries would be ready to start replacing diesel ones for many uses later this decade, earlier than previously thought. Ministers promised at the Cop26 climate conference in Glasgow in 2021 to end the sale of new diesel HGVs by 2040.
